Cold Weather Payments ‘Triggered’ in Oldham

A Department of Work and Pensions Cold Weather Payment has been triggered by the Met Office for eligible residents in parts of the Oldham East and Saddleworth constituency covered by postcodes OL1, OL16, OL2, OL3, OL4, OL5.

These payments should go straight to those who are eligible but if you, or someone you know, think you should be getting them you can find more details at Pension, Disability and Carers Service, or Jobcentre Plus.

Whilst it’s so cold we should all be really aware of checking our vulnerable neighbours are coping in this cold spell.

Age UK launched their Spread the Warmth campaign to raise awareness of the dangers to health of cold weather and cold homes particularly for older people. They are promoting preventative measures that older people can take before a cold spell and encouraging us all to look out for elderly people who are on their own and help reduce the number of excess winter deaths.

Unbelievably Age UK’s latest figures show that last winter there were almost 22,000 additional deaths among people over the age of 65 in England and Wales.

The trigger is for the period 29/1/2012 to 4/2/2012.

Further information on the Cold Weather Payments can be found on Parliament’s website.
