The Saddleworth Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund is holding a fundraising brunch on 11th Oct 2015 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm in Uppermill.
The group does amazing work in raising funds to help women in Palestine access higher education. Their last fundraising event (a sponsored walk in May) raised almost £4,000, enough to support 3 women for the full 3 years of their higher education. There are three groups that raise money for the Palestine Women’s Scholarship Fund based in Saddleworth, Sheffield and Bolton and they are now supporting 43 students.
I will be speaking at this event as will Dr Mona El-Farra from Gaza who was instrumental in setting up the Scholarship Fund in Gaza and is currently visiting the UK. This is a rare opportunity to hear first hand from someone who lives and works in Gaza, given that it is virtually impossible to get permission to leave the ‘Strip’.
There will also be live music from local musicians, tea and homemade cakes, Palestinian goods and jewellery for sale.
