I was honoured to be asked to join the volunteers planting poppies to commemorate WW1 at the Tower of London. The sheer number of poppies at the Tower is quite breathtaking. I spent time with volunteers both planting the ceramic poppies and preparing the metal ‘stems’ pre-planting.
This year’s remembrance events are especially poignant as we mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War. There are a series of local events planned throughout the next four years to commemorate those who laid down their lives during WW1, and to reflect on the wider social change that the war brought about.
I joined with my colleague Dan Jarvis MP last weekend at a ‘Stories from Conflicts’ event at Gallery Oldham as part of the ‘Oldham Remembers’ series of events.
