Emergency One-Off Passport Advice Surgery

I am extremely concerned about the failure of the Home Office to plan for this year’s increase in passport applications and the resulting appalling delays. Today I spoke during Labour’s Opposition Day Debate today on passports applications and asked the Home Secretary, Theresa May MP, why she failed to make appropriate contingency plans.

I have received a large number of queries from constituents in the last two weeks who are extremely concerned about the delays in receiving their passports. Staff at the Passport Office have been working hard to address the backlog, even arranging for one constituent to have their passport couriered to them just a few hours before they were due to leave, but plans by the Home Office to tackle this problem, which was forseen, have been woeful.

Given the scale of issues facing many people in Oldham East and Saddleworth, I have organised a one-off emergency passport drop-in advice surgery for constituents on Friday 20th June from 5.00-5.30pm at my offices at 11 Church Lane, OIdham. Constituents who live in Oldham East and Saddleworth planning to attend should bring as many details about their application as possible.
