I am running the Great Manchester Run on Sunday 18th May in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society. Creating a dementia friendly Oldham is one of my top ten priorities and I wanted to raise awareness of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme in the run up to Dementia Awareness Week later this month (19-25 May).
Last week I attended a training session in Manchester to become a Dementia Friends Champion, which means I can now run dementia friends information sessions – watch this space for details!
I have previously spoken in Parliament about my personal experience of dementia, having provided respite care for my mother, who had Alzheimer’s disease. Sadly, she died in 2012 but I now want to help other families who may be going through a similar situation. I will be running in my Mum’s memory on 18th May.
