Due to the snow day on 4th March 2016, St Chad’s Primary School was closed like many other schools across the Borough. This meant that I couldn’t visit the children and read to them for World Book Day which took place on 3rd March 2016. So last Friday, I finally got to visit the school and read from Kiss the Dust by Elizabeth Laird.
Kiss the Dust is a children’s book based in the 1980’s about a Kurdish family fleeing for their lives from northern Iraq. During my visit with the children, I drew parallels with the plight of Syrian refugees and how hard it was for them to leave their homes and often older relatives who can’t travel.
I really enjoyed my visit to the school and thank you to all at the school for such a warm welcome.
